I visited my aunt, and there was a Quran recitation gathering with our relatives
Today, after I woke up, I quickly got ready and went to my aunt’s home. I arrived at around 10 a.m. Fortunately, she lives quite close to me, so it didn’t take long to get there. I just walked through the streets and arrived on time. When I arrived, everyone was already there and was discussing random topics with each other. I was the last guest because my family had come early in the morning. They helped prepare the table and finished other preparations.
The Quran recitation gathering started at 10 a.m. and continued until around 12 p.m. During this time, the abystay—a woman who reads the Quran and has special religious knowledge—recited the Quran and gave a sermon. During the gathering, all the men stayed in another room and mostly listened quietly, sometimes talking softly among themselves. The women stayed in the main room and listened to the Quran and the sermon, because this event was specifically for women. While the abystay was reciting the Quran or giving the sermon, only women were allowed to be in that room.
After the abystay finished the recitation and the sermon, everyone was invited to the table to start the meal. Traditionally, soup was served first, which I think is the main dish at such gatherings. Gubadiya, a traditional Tatar ceremonial dish, was also prepared. Of course, there were other dishes as well, and everything was halal.
During the meal, everything was relaxed and pleasant. We talked with each other and enjoyed the food. A few funny moments happened too. One of the guests asked me why I was drinking water all the time and where my favorite thermo mug was. I explained that I drink a lot of water and added that it wasn’t just water, but water with fresh yellow lemon. Unfortunately, I couldn’t show my thermo mug because I had left it in another room.
Overall, everything was enjoyable and comfortable. I saw my relatives, talked with them, and listened to interesting and funny real-life stories. I spent about seven hours there and left around 5 p.m., after all the guests had already gone. The day was unforgettable, and I ended it with a walk in the evening.

The Quran recitation gathering started at 10 AM and continued around 12 PM. During that time the abystay (it's a woman who can read the Quran and have special knowledge) started reading the Quran and told a sermon. During that time, all the men stayed in another room and just kept listening. Or just quietly talked about something else. But the woman stayed at the main room and listened to the Quran and sermon. Because this event was special for women. And while abystay read the Quran or tell the sermon in that room should be only women.
After how the abystay finished reading the Quran and sermon, everyone was invited behind the table to start the meal. As traditionally there was prepared the soup. I think it's the main meal in this event. Also made was the gubadiya (it's the Tatar traditional ceremonial dish). Of course there were other meals too, but everything was halal.
During the meal everything was usual. We talked between each other and just enjoyed the food. But happened a bit fun things too. One of the guests started asking me about why I drink the water all the time. And where is my favorite thermo mug? Of course I explained why I drink the water all the time, and I added: it's not just water, it's special water with fresh, yellow lemon. But I couldn't show my thermo mug, because I forgot it in another room.

What you did well
- Good structure: beginning → event → ending
- You used past tense most of the time (very good)
- You explained cultural details clearly (abystay, gubadiya, women/men rooms)
- Vocabulary is quite rich for a real-life story
2. Main problems (be honest, but not scary)
Grammar mistakes:
- Extra or missing words: “everyone was already were there” → “everyone was already there”
- Wrong verb forms: “discussed about” → “discussed” (no about)
Word choice / unnatural phrases:
- “arrived at my aunt” → “arrived at my aunt’s place / my aunt’s home”
- “After how the abystay finished” → “After the abystay finished”
Repetition & long sentences:
- Some sentences are too long and could be split.
- A few ideas are repeated (arrival, time, walking).
Small clarity issues:
- Sometimes it’s not clear who did something (men, women, guests).
Overall level: solid B1, close to B2.
