I felt uncomfortable today, but I fixed an interesting bug related to banned users at work
I had some troubles, and this day was a bit uncomfortable overall. The first thing that happened was about my schedule in Google Calendar. When I opened my calendar and started checking it, I saw only one meeting for Monday. After that, I thought, “What’s going on?” and started having some doubts about my work. Then another thing happened during my morning meeting — I managed to connect successfully, but I had problems with my voice and microphone. My colleagues couldn’t hear me clearly because my voice sounded very low and unclear — they could only hear the bass tones. All of that made it difficult for me to discuss my work normally. In the end, I couldn’t talk about my tasks, ask questions, or share my opinions.
The rest of my day was also quite busy. I spent many hours working on my task, and I felt a bit crazy because my Telegram was constantly exploding with messages — from my freelance client, different channels, and my main work. I had no idea what was happening, but everyone suddenly needed something from me, and all at once. It didn’t even matter how many hours I spent on my task — everyone still wanted something from me. While writing this post, I still couldn’t reply to their messages, so I decided to leave that for tomorrow.
However, I had one interesting task from my main job — it was about fixing a problem with banned users. The issue was that banned users could still authorize through email links and use the whole site. They could do this only once, until they closed the browser. I started working on it right after my morning meeting and finished around 3 PM. At first, I went in the wrong direction and tested the wrong authorization events, which I realized only closer to lunchtime. But after lunch, I completely understood the logic and managed to fix it. Around that time, I tested the authorization system, all the authorization events, developed new rules for email-based login, and tested every step — from sending the letter to the final user authorization.
