My sunday in the village and butchering the cow

This morning was a bit rushed because I woke up at 8 a.m., and everyone was already ready to go. I quickly did my morning routine and had breakfast. By the time I finished eating, it was around 9 o’clock, and everyone was rushing me because, today, there was a cow butchering in the village, and we had to go there.

When we arrived, the main work was already done. The meat was hanging on a tractor’s lifting mechanism. However, it still hadn’t been cut into smaller pieces or separated from the bones. We helped to separate the meat from the bones because the next day it would be sent to a special factory to make sausages and sausage products. The bones would be used later to make aspic and soup.

This is an MTZ-80 tractor. It was my first time seeing how they used its lifting mechanism to raise a slaughtered cow and remove the skin and other parts

There was also a funny moment that day. When we arrived, the main butcher greeted us with a joke: “Haha, you smelled the meat and came running!” I just smiled, shook his hand, and replied, “Yeah, of course.” Then I went to talk with my cousins. We discussed school life, work, and other everyday topics. We talked about these things because my brother is still in school, and my sister is already working. It was fun and interesting to talk with them and learn something new about their lives.

While chatting with my cousins, I also played with the cats and watched over the meat. There was one cat that kept trying to grab some of the fresh meat. At one moment, while I was distracted talking, the cat jumped and got caught on a bone. Luckily, I managed to catch it in time. Fortunately, it didn’t spoil anything—it only touched a bone and hung there for a moment.

During the day, the weather kept changing. From time to time, the sun appeared and then disappeared behind the clouds again. Even when the sun was shining, it was still quite cold, around 3 to 5 degrees. So while I waited or watched others work, I got a bit cold. By the evening, I started to feel slightly feverish.
