Every day I have more doubts about my work, and I’m not sure this is the job I want. Today there was a very unpleasant conversation between my colleague and the company director. It all started during our meeting, when we were discussing tasks. The meeting was delayed by more than an hour, and as usual the director began talking. But after a few minutes, he became very angry, shouted, and swore. This happened because my colleague disagreed with him, and the director slightly misunderstood the situation.
Let me briefly describe what the director wanted. First, we have a website. Second, this site has some problems with page loading time. The director wanted the pages to load faster, so he decided to disable the antivirus. Naturally, after he disabled it, the pages started loading a bit faster. But honestly, I didn’t notice a big difference — the site worked about the same, and I didn’t see any “super speed.”
After that, he asked my colleague: What have you been doing all this time? We don’t see results from your work. My colleague tried to explain what he had done, and I understood him, but the director didn’t want to listen. If I understood correctly, my colleague was working on different things: databases, the web server, and Redis. Even if my colleague did something wrong, leadership should never use bad behavior or swearing.
I’ve never seen such angry behavior from leadership in my previous companies. Everyone there tried to remain professional and avoided swearing or showing disrespect to employees. Also, this was already the second time in this company that I saw leadership behave unprofessionally.
